How many days do you need in the Dolomites with kids?

Last updated: 27 October 2026

Three nights in one Dolomites valley is a comfortable minimum with children: one lift-and-meadow day, one lake or playground day, and a spare day for bad weather.

Where to stay

Ortisei or Santa Cristina in Val Gardena work well: local buses and lifts start in the village, and self-catering apartments make family meals easier.

Kid-friendly outings

Ride up to Seceda and pick a short signed trail, spend an afternoon at a valley playground, or walk the compact loop around Lake Carezza. Avoid exposed ridge paths with small children.

Fitting it into a road trip

Val Gardena is about two hours' drive from Innsbruck and three to three and a half hours from Venice, so it slots naturally between Austria and the Italian coast.
